DeBorah “Sunni” Smith is a leadership/executive coach and consultant. As an organizational strategist and thought partner, she is credited for successfully facilitating mission/vision alignment, leadership sustainability, and employee engagement. Sunni’s home base is in Los Angeles, California where she serves as an ICF Professional Certified Coach on the ICFLA Board of Directors. As CEO of Cassava Coaching & Consulting, she functions as an organizational strategist and thought partner while facilitating ongoing Supervision groups. Her brand of transformational coaching includes active participation in both the American and Asian Supervision Networks. She also regularly contributes to the Global Supervision Network (GSN) and periodically authors articles for ASNE, the European Journal for Supervision and Coaching.
Sunni knows the importance of establishing relationships and resources that work together innovatively to manage change and create permanent, positive paradigm shifts. Her brand of transformational coaching includes expertise in organizational imperatives such as executive presence, program alignment, change management, cognitive diversity, bias, and inclusion principles.
Her background includes directing women and small business affairs in the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Business and Economic Development. She has consulted with, coached, and trained executives and managers of Fortune 500 companies and non-profits, such as IBM, Roche and its subsidiary Genentech, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Film Independent, The Smithsonian Institution, KCRW, National Arts Strategies (NAS), Interpublic Group, Kaiser Permanente and the Kaiser Healthcare Foundation.
Her professional alliances are extensive. She is an affiliate-certified executive coach with the Ariel Group/Executive Coaching Connections (ECC) and certified in Conversational Intelligence®(C-IQ) – CreatingWe Institute. She received foundational coach training from Damian Goldvarg, Principal of The Goldvarg Consulting Group, and subsequent certifications in Team Advantage Coaching® – Pyramid Resource Group; Emotional Intelligence 2.0 and Anger Management assessment – Anderson & Anderson; as well as Conflict Resolution – Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center. As a Center for Creative Leadership Coach (CCL), she is certified in Hogan Assessments, Leadership Management 360, and Paradigm Personality Labs Workplace Big 5 Assessment. After her training in Individual and Group Coaching SuperVision, Sunni received the European Supervision Quality Award and looks forward to approval of her application certification in Supervision by the EMCC soon.
In conjunction with the US Department of Commerce, Sunni led international trade missions to South Africa and Colombia, South America. She has worked directly with national politicos, has designed marketing and promotional strategies for multi-million-dollar fund development projects, and managed technical implementations while tracking quality assurance and performance measures.
Currently, Sunni teaches administrative law in an adjunct capacity and has recently presented and trained on various coaching topics in Canada, China, and Africa.
